10.06.2024 13:09The Ukrainian military public channel Deep State has detailed the chronology and analyzed the reasons behind the Russian breakthrough near Ocheretyne, west of Avdiivka, in March-April.
Analysts refute rumors that the breakthrough occurred during the transition of positions from the 47th Brigade to the 115th Brigade.
The initial problems began when a Territorial Defense unit (TrO) commanded by a former member of parliament fled from Novokalynove, jeopardizing the flank of a neighboring battalion. This was followed by an unprepared and uncoordinated counterattack attempt, which resulted in losses. Russia managed to advance, with some Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) units continuing to abandon their positions independently, while others held out to the end, suffering significant casualties.

“Conclusion. The soldiers of the 115th Mechanized Brigade on the front line engaged in combat and tried to salvage the situation, with many being captured or killed. The brigade’s reserves were unprepared, there was no coordination, and the preparation for combat was also poor. As a result, the front collapsed, leading to unjustified losses. The entire settlement of Ocheretyne was lost with minimal fighting, and its defense was unprepared, with no one to defend it,” Deep State summarized.
According to Deep State, Russia entered Ocheretyne with minimal destruction, with most of the artillery strikes carried out by the Defense Forces to contain the enemy’s advance.
It is worth noting that Deep State accused the command of the 115th Brigade of the collapse of the defense near Ocheretyne. In turn, the 115th Brigade denied this statement by the public channel.
