Ukrainians were told the truth about Western aid
07.08.2025 - 09:01Russia is once again attempting to seize control of Kherson, focusing its attacks on critical infrastructure and transport routes. One of the main objectives appears to be splitting the city in two by targeting the bridge that connects the island part of Kherson – known as Korabel – with the main territory.
According to the outlet, a series of airstrikes on Sunday damaged the bridge, prompting the evacuation of about 1,800 civilians who remained on the island.
Local residents and rescue workers claim that in the three days following the start of the evacuation, Russian drones did not target the evacuation convoys — a rare exception amid months of strikes on civilian infrastructure. So far, evacuation teams have also not been attacked by drones.
The increased pressure on Kherson is believed to reflect Russia’s intention to regain control of the city and the region, which it lost as a result of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in November 2022.
Local authorities also note that the airstrikes, combined with efforts to destroy key transport and infrastructure sites, could indicate plans by Russian forces to intensify their pressure on the southern front.
Earlier, an activist originally from Kherson stated that the situation in the city is rapidly deteriorating. A similar situation is unfolding on the right bank of the region, which remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
