November 29, 2024The shooter who killed a man at a hotel in Kyiv over the weekend was identified as Dmitry Rashevsky, a serviceman with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
This was reported by his colleagues on social media and several media outlets.
The victim was 27-year-old Oleksandr Kanazyrytskyi, the deputy head of public utilities for the city of Pivdenne in the Odessa region. He was killed, and his colleague and a hotel security guard were injured.
Initially, 30-year-old Rashevsky discarded his pistol and fled the scene, but later turned himself in to the police.
Two groups of young men were spending time on the first floor of the hotel when a conflict broke out between them. During the altercation, Rashevsky was struck in the head, after which he opened fire.
A campaign to defend Rashevsky has already started online, with claims that he used the weapon “in self-defense” and was hospitalized with a concussion after the incident. Videos of people in military uniforms with their faces covered are circulating, stating that Rashevsky is their comrade, a participant in combat operations, and calling for him not to be punished.
A group of military personnel also gathered outside the Pechersk Police Department in Kyiv.
However, according to Censor editor-in-chief Yuriy Butusov, Rashevsky has previously faced criminal charges and has connections to Dnipro businessman Oleksandr Petrovskyi, also known as Narik.
It should be noted that the shooting occurred on Saturday night at a hotel in Kyiv.
“The incident happened around 1:00 AM. A conflict broke out between two groups in the hotel, which escalated into a scuffle. During the altercation, one of the individuals drew a weapon and fired several shots at his opponents.
The 27-year-old man died on the spot from his injuries, and the victim’s friend and a hotel security guard were also injured. They were hospitalized in satisfactory condition.”
