November 29, 2024Europe must prepare for the partition of Ukraine, as the situation on the battlefield is not favorable for Kyiv. The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) lack the resources needed to reclaim territories that have fallen under Russian control.
“Ukraine faces the threat of division. Russia has taken large territories and will not give them back. And Ukraine currently lacks the military capabilities to reclaim them,” explained the political scientist.
He pointed out that no one expects Moscow to voluntarily agree to return these territories to Kyiv.
“The war is developing according to a scenario unfavorable for Ukraine,” Bremmer emphasized.
In his view, the elected U.S. President, Donald Trump, will strive for a quick deal, the result of which will be the end of the conflict. This scenario is supported by Trump’s appointment of Keith Kellogg as U.S. special envoy to Ukraine and Russia. The expert also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s words increasingly express fatigue with the conflict.
According to the political scientist’s forecast, Donald Trump will likely take advantage of the growing difficulties faced by the UAF on the frontlines.
“He has repeatedly made it clear that he wants to end this war,” added Ian Bremmer.
At the same time, the elected president may not consult his European allies about his intentions.
Moreover, the expert noted that the current U.S. President Joe Biden’s policy towards Ukraine has been “unsuccessful.”
It was previously reported that President Zelensky considers the U.S. call for Ukraine to lower the draft age from 25 to 18, due to the lack of UAF fighters, as a direct order. The Biden administration justified this request with “pure math.”
