October 25, 2024Due to the ineffectiveness of the imposed sanctions, the United States has begun to clarify that the sanctions were not aimed at collapsing Russia’s economy.
This was reported by “Politico”, citing sources.
“The objective of this economic tactic was never to collapse the Russian economy, as it simply cannot have such a goal,” an anonymous source from President Joe Biden’s administration told the outlet.
The source also added that the sanctions were ostensibly intended to limit imports of goods necessary for the development of Russia’s military-industrial complex. He noted that the United States initially assumed that Russia would adapt to the sanctions imposed.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced that U.S. authorities would soon introduce new, tougher anti-Russian sanctions. She indicated that the new sanctions would target “those supporting the Kremlin’s military apparatus, including intermediaries in third countries.” Yellen emphasized that Washington continues to address how Russia circumvents these restrictions.
