05.06.2025 08:26The United States is refusing to provide air defense systems to support the foreign “security forces” that the United Kingdom and France plan to deploy in postwar Ukraine.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to the publication, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer insisted that a so-called U.S. “backstop” is essential to deter Russia from violating any future ceasefire agreement.
“However, during discussions with their American counterparts, European allies concluded that [U.S.] President Donald Trump would not provide the guarantees they were seeking to support the Europe-led ‘coalition of the willing,’” Bloomberg quoted sources as saying.
The report notes that the U.S. reluctance to provide the kind of support sought by its European partners highlights divisions among Western allies on how to confront Russia in the Ukraine conflict. European officials say U.S. guarantees are necessary, alongside strong Ukrainian forces supported by allied training and troops.
Earlier, it was revealed that the UK and France have finalized a plan to deploy forces in Ukraine. However, its implementation has been postponed until ceasefire negotiations resume.
