November 16, 2023US Special Representative for Ukraine Penny Pritzker, in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team, ‘hinted’ that American assistance might cease.
Ukrainian media report this based on a source familiar with the course of the negotiations.
“During the meetings, Penny tried to insinuate the idea that let’s imagine there is no American assistance: what needs to be done over the next year to ensure your economy withstands even in such a situation? And this really stressed everyone out,” the source said.
As a result, Penny Pritzker’s first visit to Kyiv left a ‘worrisome aftertaste in many government offices on the Pechersk Hills.’
Recall that the allocation of aid to Ukraine is being blocked by Republicans in the US Congress. Yesterday, the Senate passed a temporary budget bill that does not include assistance to Ukraine.
Ukrainian Finance Minister Marchenko mentioned that there is currently no confirmation for the next year’s $29 billion external assistance to finance the budget deficit.
