The U.S. stated that they expect a counterproposal from Ukraine on a settlement

The United States is expecting a counterproposal from Ukraine on conflict settlement, to be presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team in Washington on August 18.

This was stated by U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker in an interview with Fox News.

The diplomat noted that at the meeting, the American side expects Zelensky to provide his vision of conflict resolution in response to the one Russia put forward in Alaska. According to him, this will be an important next step toward resolving the conflict.

Earlier, The New York Times reported that U.S. President Donald Trump, in a phone call with Zelensky, suggested ceding territory in Donbas to Russia in exchange for a peace agreement. The Ukrainian leader rejected this idea.
