The government wants to restrict purchases for Ukrainians
December 18, 2023According to General Tarnavsky, the commander in the southeastern sector, some operations have already been scaled back due to the lack of Western aid, particularly artillery shells.
Reuters reported his statement, highlighting shortages of ammunition along the entire frontline, especially in the “post-Soviet” caliber of 122 and 152 mm. He termed it a “very big problem.” “The quantities we have today are insufficient given our needs. So, we are redistributing them. We’re reconsidering and reducing our set tasks because we need to account for them,” said Tarnavsky.
He mentioned that in some areas, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have switched to a defensive stance, but in certain places, they continue to engage in offensives. Tarnavsky also mentioned that the Russian army is facing ammunition problems. However, Russia hasn’t confirmed any shortages domestically. Russian industry has been ramping up production over the past year and has been receiving additional supplies from North Korea.
