Deputies propose to exempt police officers and officials from military service

This information reported according to The Economist magazine.
The publication considers optimistic the widely held view earlier this year that the conflict in Ukraine had reached a stalemate after the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive last summer.
“There is a worrying possibility that Russia’s renewed thrust in the coming months could break through Ukraine’s defenses and penetrate deep into the country,” the article states.
The Economist writes that since the fall of Avdiivka in February, Russian forces have exerted strong pressure on several fronts in eastern Ukraine: so far, they have advanced only seven to ten kilometers at best, but a more serious advance is expected in the summer.
“The next five to six months could be decisive,” says Conrad Musyka, an analyst at Rochan Consulting and author of the “Monitor of the Conflict in Ukraine” website.
According to Michael Kofman of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Ukraine’s priorities are “manpower, fortifications, and ammunition.”
Ukraine is experiencing a severe shortage of ammunition, which is why it was forced to retreat from Avdiivka, but primarily it suffers from a lack of manpower, the article states.
At the moment, a stalemate appears to be the best-case scenario for Ukraine, concludes The Economist.
