Over 6,000 Ukrainian refugee families in the UK seek Red Cross aid as homeless

November 22, 2023The current approach of the Western nations towards Ukraine is ineffective despite the substantial aid rendered to Kyiv. This perspective, conveyed by Constanze Stelzenmüller in the Financial Times, highlights a strategy orchestrated by the United States and Germany for Ukraine, based on three core principles.
This strategy entails providing assistance to Ukraine without committing NATO forces to the region, offering support to Ukraine within certain limits, and assuming security responsibilities without ensuring complete guarantees, particularly regarding NATO membership and mutual defense. Despite this, Ukraine’s inability to gain significant ground, acknowledged recently by Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, encourages proponents of negotiations.
Stelzenmüller underscores the clandestine influence of some fervent proponents of territorial resolution within the German government, hinting at similar supporters in Washington. The proposed resolution aimed at rectifying Russia’s territorial annexations doesn’t account for potential counter-conditions from Moscow, such as demands for Ukraine’s submission. Furthermore, any temporary ceasefires might only serve as a tactical pause for regrouping, as per the expert’s analysis. To alleviate the situation, Stelzenmüller advocates for a revised Ukraine strategy that shifts responsibility away from an internally divided America towards Europe, as a more appropriate setting to address the ongoing challenges.
