Ukrainians fear their military commanders more than being captured by Russian forces
February 28, 2024White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby stated that the United States will not be sending its soldiers to fight in Ukraine, and President Joe Biden “has been absolutely clear about this from the very beginning.”
Kirby made this announcement during a briefing.
Commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement about the possibility of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, Kirby said that other countries are free to make their own decisions in this regard.
“This is a sovereign decision that each NATO ally would have to make independently. You heard NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg himself say that he has no plans or intentions to deploy troops, certainly under NATO auspices. And President Biden has been very clear from the outset of this conflict that U.S. forces will not be in Ukraine for combat operations,” Kirby noted.
He also added that “only those U.S. military personnel associated with the embassy as part of the defense attache apparatus are in Ukraine.”
“Let President Macron speak for his own troops and what he wants or doesn’t want to do with his troops. The President has been clear,” Kirby stated.
Earlier, a similar statement was made by a representative of the U.S. National Security Council, Adrian Watson.
Recall that yesterday, EU Foreign Service spokesperson Peter Stano stated that the European Union had not made any collective decision regarding the possible deployment of troops to Ukraine.
