Donald Trump does not consider Russia a threat to NATO and Europe
17.02.2025 - 19:03The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump “has ended the international isolation of the Russian president, shattered Western unity in this conflict, and cast doubt on how far the U.S. is willing to go in defending Europe.”
This was reported by CNN in response to the beginning of U.S.-Russia negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
According to the publication, this development “signals a stunning shift toward Putin and away from America’s traditional allies.”
The network also expressed concerns that the U.S. president “may agree to any deal with Putin, even if it is bad for Ukraine and the continent.” There are also fears that Ukraine itself will not be included in the negotiations.
However, CNN acknowledges that “without the determination of the new U.S. president to restore ties with Putin, there would be little hope of ending the brutal war in the coming months.”
At the same time, journalists worry that any deal reached could “legitimize an illegal invasion and then impose it on Ukraine.”
Trump’s decision to abandon coordination with Europe and the absence of Ukrainian representatives in the Saudi negotiations have “significantly weakened the West’s bargaining position.”
“European officials are likely to be much more sympathetic to Ukraine’s position than Trump, so if they are excluded from any full-scale negotiations, Zelensky’s position could seriously deteriorate,” CNN reports.
It is worth noting that tomorrow’s U.S.-Russia negotiations in Saudi Arabia will focus on launching talks regarding Ukraine.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine will not recognize the results of these negotiations, as it is not participating in them.
