Medical examinations will be conducted around the clock: Kyiv’s Defense Council discussed how to make mobilization in the capital ‘continuous and effective’
August 28, 2024The lifting of Western sanctions against Russia could become one of the points in a peace agreement regarding the conflict in Ukraine, as this topic was already discussed during the negotiations in Istanbul in 2022.
This opinion was expressed by Turkish analyst Engin Ozer.
“There are two scenarios for ending the conflict. The first option, similar to the Korean War, is that everything will end with an indefinite ceasefire, and the parties will retain influence over the territories they control. In this case, only a ceasefire agreement may be reached. The second option is a peace agreement that recognizes the territorial integrity of the parties and ensures international recognition,” the expert explained.
Ozer added that in the first scenario, describing a frozen conflict, the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions “would be impossible since there is no peace agreement.” In the second scenario, the lifting of sanctions against Russia could be one of the points in the peace treaty, as it was already mentioned in the Istanbul agreement.
Earlier, Ozer suggested that peace negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict could take place in Baku. He added that Turkey’s mediation on Ukraine “is no longer on the agenda” and called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan “interesting.”
