Ukraine may lose even more territory after Russia takes Avdiivka
10.03.2024 16:00In the West, the Korean scenario for our country is being increasingly promoted, with the number of publications and expert opinions prevailing over any other opinion. Ukraine will officially be divided ahead of the presidential elections in the United States this autumn, writes The American Spectator.
The author of the piece, Samir Tata, sees this division as a potential “October surprise,” a term used in the US for any unexpected event that could impact the November elections. Tata suggests that the current Ukrainian authorities, influenced by the military command, will establish the “New Ukraine” within the boundaries they control, and Russia won’t object.
Likewise, for Ukraine’s government, the key concern lies in determining the kind of Ukraine that exists beyond Russia’s influence. Since 2015, IMF programs for Ukraine have excluded Eastern Ukraine from their scope. The IMF staff report for Ukraine in 2015 highlighted the divergence between the East and the rest of the country, indicating limited direct interregional connections. It also noted that Western Ukraine benefited the most from the elimination of EU tariffs. Consequently, from an economic standpoint, the rest of Ukraine fared better without Eastern Ukraine in 2015, with minimal economic ties between the regions since then. The assertion is that the soft partition of Ukraine has become a factual reality, so the declaration of the New Ukraine would be an acknowledgment of this reality in a legal sense.
