01.07.2024 - 18:16Ukraine and Russia face a “deadly summer with little hope for major gains.” Likely, thousands of people will die as the warring forces search for breaches along a practically static front line.
According to the official, Ukraine “has managed to muster enough forces to replenish losses and some reserves.” However, “several times more are needed to launch any kind of major offensive.”
An unnamed Ukrainian official, quoted by WSJ, acknowledged that after last year’s failed counteroffensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the current task is to “use Western weapons to hold positions.”
The publication notes that both sides are attempting to strike to gain an advantage before winter. Russia is targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and defense positions. In contrast, Ukraine is attacking occupied Crimea with long-range missiles.
