‘Commanders don’t give a damn.’ A Ukrainian soldier reported leadership mistakes near Toretsk and Pokrovsk
19.08.2024 - 10:39Ukraine has lost military aid from Germany worth €3.87 billion due to disputes within the Federal Republic’s government.
This was reported by Bild, citing sources.
The article notes that amid information that Berlin can no longer allocate funds to assist Kyiv, the German Ministry of Finance stated that it is “ready to consider providing additional funds in a short time” if they are “concretely and transparently reported.” However, the ministry has not received any reports with specific measures, which prevents decisions on the allocation of funds from being made.
According to Bild sources, Chancellor Olaf Scholz is personally responsible for this, as his office reportedly prohibited the Ministry of Defense from submitting prepared requests to the Ministry of Finance.
In turn, the military department stated that due to the Ministry of Finance’s inaction, “more than 30 measures, which were of high priority for Ukraine, totaling over €3 billion, cannot be implemented.”
The tabloid reports that as early as May, the German Ministry of Defense requested an increase in spending to support Ukraine by €3.87 billion. However, due to disputes within the government, according to Bild, a significant portion of the necessary materials and equipment will not be available to Ukraine this year.
Earlier, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, in light of information that Germany would be forced to limit its aid due to budget constraints, urged Berlin not to retreat from supporting Kyiv.
