Zelensky admitted that Ukraine did not achieve the desired results during the offensive
01.12.2023 - 14:26Journalist Dmitry Gordon shared his opinion on whether Ukraine can now secure more advantageous terms for a peaceful agreement with Russia than in March 2022.
“They are ramping up production, attacking. We’re not getting enough weapons, we lack personnel. And they’re exhausting our infrastructure, us. They’re tearing apart Ukrainian society from within. They’re buying off politicians in the West. Sanctions aren’t working. An aggressor country cannot receive $600 billion a year from oil and gas; that’s out of the question. Of course, when you have money, you continue fighting. This means that if we stagnate in a state where we’re not advancing, the West will say what they’re already hinting at: ‘Well, you see, your counteroffensive isn’t working. We can’t provide more money because our taxpayers won’t understand. If you had succeeded with a counteroffensive, we could explain it to our citizens. We can’t provide weapons in such quantities. Go negotiate with the Russians.’ They can say that,” Gordon believes.
However, he is uncertain whether Ukraine will be accepted into the EU and NATO: “I only hear talks for now.”
He thinks that the West wants to trade with Russia again and not admit Ukraine into its blocs.
In future potential negotiations, according to him, Ukraine will have a weak position, and Russia will again demand renunciation of NATO, but this time with the fixation of territories along the current front line.
“Then the question arises for David Arakhamia: what were you trying to negotiate then? So much time has passed, such terrible losses. So are those conditions better than these, or worse?” Gordon posed the question.
