‘Ukraine will have a weak position in future negotiations with Russia’, – Gordon
December 1, 2023Ukrainians believe that Zelensky will lose legitimacy by March
December 1, 2023Ukraine did not achieve the desired results during the summer counteroffensive.
“We wanted to achieve faster results. From this point of view, unfortunately, we did not achieve the desired results. And that’s a fact,” Zelensky said.
He added that he is glad the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) are not retreating while fighting against “the second-largest army in the world.”
“Look, we’re not retreating, I’m content. We’re fighting against the second-largest army in the world, I’m content. We’re losing people, I’m not satisfied. We didn’t receive all the weapons we wanted, I can’t be satisfied, but I also can’t complain too much,” stated the president.
According to him, the “limitations in size” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces prevent a swift offensive.
“We lack the forces to achieve the desired results more quickly. But that doesn’t mean we should surrender, that we should capitulate. We’re confident in our actions. We’re fighting for what belongs to us,” Zelensky declared.
He also mentioned that Israel’s war has already reduced aid supplies to Ukraine.
“Only a blind person doesn’t see this. We must not allow people to forget about the war here,” he said.
Therefore, Ukraine’s current priority is producing its own weapons. Zelensky aims to obtain Western loans and contracts for this purpose.
“That’s the way out. Give us these opportunities, and we’ll build. No matter the effort and time required, we’ll do it, and we’ll do it very quickly,” the president recalled his conversation with officials in the United States.
He believes that “nothing scares Russia more than a self-sufficient Ukraine in military terms.”
Regarding rumors that he’s being inclined toward negotiations with Russia, the president responded:
“I don’t feel that yet. Some voices are always heard.”
Moreover, according to him, the war in Ukraine has entered a new phase.
“We have a new phase of the war, and that’s a fact. Winter, in general, is a new stage of the war,” the president stated, referring to the recent mass attacks by “Shaheeds,” including on energy infrastructure.
