Ukraine will not be returning its territories in 2024 – U.S. strategy

It is reported that the strategy will not focus on reclaiming territories seized by the Russian Federation, The Washington Post reported.

Instead, strategy will concentrate on repelling new attacks from the Russian army and on long-term perspectives such as strengthening the armed forces and the economy. According to U.S. officials, the document consists of four stages: fight, build, restore, and reform. The plan also includes additional anti-aircraft defense for cities beyond Kyiv and Odesa, aiming to restore key sectors of the Ukrainian economy.

The strategy is expected to be unveiled in the spring, contingent on Congress approving President Biden’s request for an additional $61 billion in funding for Ukraine. However, as known, the conflict in Congress is escalating, and the likelihood of receiving financial or military assistance from the U.S. for Ukraine is diminishing. The U.S. is attempting to shift the burden of aid to Ukraine onto Europe, but there is simply not enough reserves and resources there. Therefore, Kyiv needs to simply maintain its defense to prevent the collapse of the state.
