12.06.2024 - 10:45Ukraine’s Minister of Justice, Denys Maliuska, believes it is inevitable that some mobilized prisoners will re-offend.
Maliuska expressed this view during an interview on the YouTube channel “Nobody Will Watch This.”
“If a prisoner who was released on parole to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine later commits a crime, it will cause much more outrage and media noise than if an ordinary conscript commits a crime. Regardless of any statistics, even if it is within the statistical range of people who have not served sentences. Currently, we have servicemen who return on rotation or are granted leave, and they also commit crimes. This doesn’t make it to the media. This is also an important problem that should not be overlooked,” the minister said.
He is convinced that “this problem awaits us.”
It is worth noting that at the end of May, Maliuska reported that Ukraine had already released 350 prisoners to participate in the war. More than four thousand are in line.
The Minister of Justice also admitted the possibility of mobilizing women from prisons, including those convicted of murder.
