Ukrainian military personnel will be banned from accessing gambling until the end of the war

Members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be banned from gambling until the end of the war.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation.

The ministry said that to enforce the ban, users logging into gambling platforms will be checked against both the register of persons whose access to gambling is restricted and the register of military personnel.

Earlier, media outlets cited testimony from Ukrainian soldiers and Western media reports about an epidemic of gambling addiction within the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In particular, there were reports that servicemen were pawning drones in order to gamble in online casinos.

Lawmakers have also raised alarm over the issue.

Ukraine’s National Bank has already banned loans secured by military goods in an effort to combat gambling addiction in the armed forces.
