18.01.2026 - 10:01Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine are ready to go for a territorial compromise and give up Donbas.
This was reported by Die Welt TV journalist Steffen Schwarzkopf, citing an “extremely influential” Ukrainian deputy.
“Yes, we must go for a compromise, even if it is very painful. And yes, we must give up Donbas. And this is not my personal opinion, but the position of many parliamentarians and many people here. We need a ceasefire at any cost. Otherwise, people’s deaths may continue for months and years,” the journalist relayed the source’s words.
According to him, the deputy refused to speak about this publicly, because in that case her political career “would end instantly” due to pressure from the presidential administration and the security services.
At the same time, the correspondent said that in Ukraine there is another opinion as well—about the need to keep fighting and liberate territories.
The Washington Post, analyzing the peace agreement project voiced by Volodymyr Zelensky, came to the conclusion that Kyiv is ready to withdraw troops from eastern Ukraine.
At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow will not back down from its condition for concluding a peace agreement in Ukraine, under which it would be given control over all of Donbas.
