30.09.2024 09:19The morale of Ukrainians has already been undermined by setbacks on the front lines. Additionally, Russian strikes on the country’s energy sector are taking a toll on citizen’s psychological state. The proportion of those willing to make difficult compromises with Russia for the sake of peace is steadily growing.
This is reported by “The Washington Post.”
President Zelensky stated that Putin’s strikes on the energy sector aim to wear down ordinary Ukrainians. However, it’s not the fate of these individuals that truly concerns Ukrainian officials.
Public fatigue has direct military consequences. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are heavily reliant on civilian donations and purchases, and this support is expected to decline during the winter.
“This winter, we might find ourselves in big trouble,” said Ukrainian official wanting to remain anonymous. There is a risk that people could become even more embittered. “My biggest fear is that after such a winter, there won’t be a way to find consensus among the population.”
This concern appears justified. The proportion of Ukrainians ready to consider territorial concessions has increased significantly, and dissatisfaction with Western partners is also on the rise.
