02.01.2026 - 11:29During the war in Ukraine, the number of people with disabilities has increased—from 2.7 million to 3.4 million.
This was reported by former Prime Minister of Ukraine Anatolii Kinakh.
According to him, the ratio of deaths to births is approaching 3:1.
“Overall losses from the destruction of our infrastructure—energy, transport, social, industrial—are already approaching one trillion dollars. This is an unprecedented scale of destruction; there has been nothing like it since World War II. The most valuable thing any state has is human lives. Statistics for the first half of 2025 show about 100,000 registered newborns and 249,000 deaths. Our deaths-to-births ratio is approaching 3:1. According to some data, Ukraine currently has 28–29 million people living in the territories under its control. Of these, 10.2 million are pensioners. In addition, the number of people with disabilities is growing—now it is already 3.4 million. Over the period of the war, their number has increased by 700,000. This is the price Ukraine is paying for this situation. Therefore, it is time to end the hot phase of the war on balanced terms,” Kinakh said.
Recall that, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice, in 2024 the death rate in Ukraine exceeded the birth rate by 2.8 times.
And according to information from the CIA, Ukraine has the highest mortality rate in the world and the lowest birth rate.
