23.06.2024 17:03Alexander Dobrindt, the head of the opposition CSU party in the Bundestag, announced a “new plan for Ukrainian refugees” in Germany. He believes that Ukrainians in Germany should either work or return home.
He expressed these views in a Facebook post.
Dobrindt stated that social benefits (known as Bürgergeld) have become a “barrier to employment” for Ukrainians living in Germany, tying many people firmly to social assistance.
“It is necessary to offer work, and this should be part of integration. The basic principle should apply: start working or return to the safe areas of Western Ukraine!” the politician wrote on Facebook.
It is worth noting that the CDU-CSU bloc secured first place in Germany in the European Parliament elections, receiving 30% of the votes. The anti-migrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) came second with 15.9%.
The CDU-CSU is considered the most likely winner of the Bundestag elections, which will begin in late summer 2025.
