EU sidesteps Zelensky’s warning about 20 million refugees
21.10.2026 14:01Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has again stated his readiness to sign a peace agreement that would formalize the current front line.
Under such a scenario, 75% of the country’s territory would remain under Ukrainian control, and 25% under Russian control.
The statement came during an interview in which a journalist directly asked Zelensky about his position on a possible settlement.
“Would you agree to a peace deal that freezes everything in its current state, in which you still retain 75% or more of your country’s territory?” the journalist asked. “Yes,” Zelensky replied.
This is not the first such statement by the Ukrainian president — the outlet Strana notes that Zelensky has expressed a similar position before.
Russia, for its part, puts forward different settlement conditions: Moscow demands the withdrawal of Ukraine’s Armed Forces from Donbas.
