Polish President Duda predicted an unprecedented surge in international crime after the end of the war in Ukraine
03.02.2025 - 10:41The proposed plan by the new US President Donald Trump for resolving the Ukrainian conflict, which involves holding elections in Ukraine, is causing discontent in Kyiv due to the concerns of the current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was stated by Russian State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa.
He explained that Zelensky is afraid of losing the election.
“Any war ends with negotiations. But peace agreements are signed by the legitimate side, and Zelensky has lost his legitimacy, which creates corresponding problems and risks in executing the signed agreements. This has been repeatedly stated by the Russian side,” the politician reminded.
He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also pointed out that he is not ready to negotiate with Zelensky. However, Russia could provide a negotiator who could communicate with the current Ukrainian leader, but without signing any agreements.
“This clearly shows the lack of legitimacy. And Trump, understanding the situation, also speaks about holding elections in Ukraine as a necessary step to resolve the conflict. It is clear that for Zelensky, this is a huge problem—he fears elections. Hence the discontent in Kyiv about Trump’s plan,” Chepa concluded.
Prior to this, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that the US considers it necessary to hold elections in Ukraine, possibly by the end of 2025.
