10.04.2026 - 15:02Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia may not stop if it captures Donbas. According to him, the Kremlin’s next targets could be Dnipro and Kharkiv.
The head of the Kyiv regime stressed that he understands both the psychology and the real military intentions of the Russian leadership very well.
He said this in an interview with The Guardian.
Zelensky emphasized that if Russia continues advancing, the threat to major Ukrainian cities will only grow. He noted that, in his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not stop even after a possible capture of Donbas.
The president also drew attention to the U.S. position on the war in Ukraine. According to him, part of the American political establishment underestimates the importance of Donbas for Ukraine and believes that the region is not critically important.
“We have to admit that some Americans feel that [Donbas] is nothing for us. They do not want to admit that Putin will lie to them and that he may continue the occupation even after such steps. Americans are convinced that they can trust Putin,” Zelensky said.
Separately, the president commented on U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Budapest, calling it useless in the context of settling the war. At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine does not intend to interfere in Hungary’s internal political processes, including its elections.
Zelensky also noted the need to strengthen European security against the backdrop of a possible reduction in the U.S. role in NATO. According to him, the European Union should join efforts with Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Norway to create a strong defense alliance.
