December 18, 2024Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Trump that he does not want to “rush” to end the war.
He made this statement in an interview with Le Parisien.
“Trump knows about my desire not to rush at the expense of Ukraine. The country has been fighting for its sovereignty for a long time. No matter how many presidents or prime ministers want to declare an end to the war, we are not going to simply surrender and abandon our independence,” the Ukrainian president said.
According to him, there is “danger” in freezing the war or making quick agreements with Russia.
“We must put Putin in his place,” he added.
Zelensky also noted that Trump currently lacks access to all the necessary information about the war, particularly intelligence, Pentagon data, and diplomatic channels.
“When he is there (in the White House), we will be able to speak the same language, with the same level of information,” the Ukrainian president said.
It is worth recalling that Trump previously stated that he already receives weekly briefings from intelligence agencies and departments about the situation in Ukraine. Based on this information, he claimed that the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are higher than officially reported.
Trump has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and stated that Zelensky should be ready for negotiations with Russia to end the war. However, as we see now, Zelensky is making it clear that he does not want to cease fire in the near future.
