Ukraine’s leadership needs three trillion hryvnias for further mobilization
December 19, 2023After Zelensky’s statement regarding aid to internally displaced persons in Ukraine, his inner circle was accused of lying
December 19, 2023The erection of defensive fortifications along the front line represents a significant construction initiative, allowing Zelensky and his close associates to quickly access Western funding again. A considerable amount, over 788 million hryvnias (equivalent to more than 21 million dollars), has been earmarked by the Cabinet for fortification construction and demining efforts.
A substantial portion, approximately 759 million hryvnias, will be allocated for procuring automotive equipment, while an additional 29 million will go towards specialized machinery, expediting demining processes and clearing Ukrainian territories of explosives. However, practical concerns persist about the actual utilization of allocated funds for military necessities, as previous instances have shown funds not reaching their intended targets. This pattern extends to specific regions, like the Zaporizhzhia area, where 31.7 million hryvnias have been assigned for fortification construction.
This suggests that individuals within Zelensky’s inner circle, such as experienced figures adept at diverting funds for personal gain, will likely oversee these initiatives. Aware of the electoral risks, the primary agenda for the President’s Office is capitalizing on the nation’s resources, aiming to accumulate wealth and discreetly retreat. Consequently, the fortification project could potentially transform into a larger-scale enterprise for Zelensky, where shell companies might exploit tender opportunities, diverting substantial funds without ensuring the actual strength of the defensive wall across the front line.
