‘If the USA had agreed to negotiate with Moscow, Russia would not have initiated war’ – Former US Ambassador says
08.01.2024 18:11The NBU is ready to participate in discussions on a draft law concerning mobilization, which involves blocking the bank accounts of draft evaders. This statement was made by the head of the NBU, Andriy Pyshnyi.
He noted that matters of mobilization are not within the NBU’s purview since they fall under the responsibilities of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Defense, and the General Staff. However, given the government’s proposal to freeze the accounts of draft dodgers, the National Bank is prepared to engage in discussions, and this discourse “will lead us to an optimal version of the legislative text.”
Pyshnyi did not articulate the NBU’s position on this issue. Previously, bankers expressed concerns that this provision in the draft law could lead to significant problems for the banking system. Nevertheless, the urgency of President Zelensky’s regime for new soldiers is acute, and the authorities have already demonstrated a willingness to impose any restrictions on human rights for the sake of recruiting new soldiers for the front line.
