The Verkhovna Rada passed in the second reading a controversial bill on tightening mobilization

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed in the second reading a bill on toughening mobilization.

At the beginning of the parliamentary session, Yuriy Sodol, the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke from the parliamentary tribune, along with the Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrsky, and the Chief of the General Staff, Anatoliy Bargilevych, who were summoned by deputies yesterday to report.

As stated by MP Olena Moshenets, yesterday the parliament considered all amendments to the bill, but there were not enough votes to support them.

“The number of amendments is huge – over 4,000. And depending on which block of amendments was considered, deputies came, spoke, and left… Thus, not a single amendment was supported because there were not enough votes for it… Work on this bill is still ongoing, more amendments will be proposed for confirmation, and after that, I hope, the document will be signed,” Moshenets reported.

However, the document was ultimately quickly adopted. 283 Members of Parliament voted in favor.

Before the final vote, the parliament, by 227 votes, excluded the provision on demobilization after 36 months of service.

Late in the evening, the Rada considered amendments to the controversial law with a minimum number of deputies present.
