08.06.2024 - 12:04The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is urging the Verkhovna Rada to “urgently” resume consideration of the draft law on the creation of military police.
This was stated in a message from the department on its Telegram channel.
“The creation of military police is critically important for ensuring law and order in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Specifically, it pertains to the compliance with NATO standards and the development of a system that will ensure justice and effective protection of the rights of servicemen,” the Ministry of Defense reported.
The department further plans to establish a military prosecutor’s office and military courts.

It should be noted that on June 5, the Rada removed from consideration two draft laws concerning the creation of military police. These laws would allow the collection of reports on draft evaders, enable entry into their homes, and facilitate the search for deserters.
Additionally, these draft laws propose that the military police will be able to prohibit the movement of military transport, search it, and check people’s documents. Servicemen, conscripts, and reservists during their training sessions could be detained and held in guardhouses.
