Violence against children and “calming” with psychotropics: the results of an inspection of a special school in Ternopil region have emerged

In one of the special schools in Ternopil region, an 8-year-old child was subjected to sexual abuse, and other children were “calmed” with psychotropic drugs.

This is reported by ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets.

Earlier, the Prosecutor’s office has already reported on the opening of a criminal case on this matter. At the ombudsman told other details of the detention of children in the boarding school for children with special needs.

“Two cases of sexual abuse between children have been established. The youngest victim is 8 years old,” said lawyer Irina Miroshnichenko, who conducted the inspection.

Also, she said, some children “for bad behavior” were sent to a local psychiatric hospital, where they were injected with powerful sedatives without doctors’ testimony, after which they became “like vegetables.”

“Medications, including psychotropics and sedatives, are given to children without doctors’ prescription, control and without confirmation of diagnosis,” Lubinets also stated.

In addition, the inspectors reported poor conditions for the children – hot water is given twice a week for two hours, they are fed sandwiches with hot water, and there is unsanitary conditions everywhere.

The furniture in the rooms is broken, there are practically no toys in the playroom. At the same time, in one of the rooms they found traces of a “feast” with alcohol for the orphanage workers.
