22.10.2025 - 05:03Two Ukrainian citizens attempted to set fire to a Nova Post office in Bucharest.
This information reported according to the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI).
The two Ukrainians entered Romania from Poland and sent two parcels containing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) disguised as headphones and car parts, equipped with remote detonators.
According to investigators, the Ukrainians were recruited by Russian intelligence services. The Romanian authorities said that their actions were under surveillance from the start.
“The SRI identified and monitored two Ukrainian citizens who entered the country from Poland on their way to Bucharest. They submitted two parcels at a NOVA POST office in Bucharest. The rapid deployment of specialized teams and resources allowed us to immediately identify and neutralize the incendiary parcels and prevent their deliberate or accidental activation,” the agency’s statement reads.
It was not specified how Romanian intelligence learned that the group of Ukrainians was entering the country with the intent to attack the Nova Post office.
Earlier, in Poland, eight individuals were detained on suspicion of preparing sabotage operations. Their nationality has not yet been disclosed.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the arrests, while Intelligence Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak clarified that the suspects had been collecting intelligence on military facilities and critical infrastructure and were preparing materials for sabotage and terrorist attacks.
As a reminder, in early October, Polish authorities detained a man suspected of planning terrorist attacks on behalf of Russia.
