Demand for large apartments in Ukraine shifts from western regions to central and northern ones
11.08.2026 16:04Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova has said that Ukraine is turning into an unfree country and sharply criticized the actions of employees of the territorial recruitment centers (TCC).
According to Polyakova, numerous videos showing men being forcibly detained by TCC staff have left people unable to understand where the line falls between what is acceptable and what is not. The singer believes this is creating an atmosphere of fear and “double standards” in Ukrainian society.
“Anyone can be kidnapped on the street right now, and no one will stand up for them. Because everyone is thinking: is this the TCC or not the TCC, is this normal or not normal. People have lost their sense of what’s ‘right’ and what’s ‘wrong,'” Polyakova said.
The singer warned that society is gradually turning into “frightened mice.”
“Soon we will all be scared, frightened mice sitting in our holes, afraid to even stick our noses out. And your loved one or someone else will be bundled up on the street, and you’ll just walk past,” she said.
Polyakova also accused society of indifference to what is happening. According to her, when people see someone being “kicked,” they turn away and keep walking — as long as they themselves are not affected.
In closing, the singer said that Ukraine is losing the ideals of freedom for which, in her words, the country has been fighting for many years.
“Ukraine is no longer a free country. We have been fighting for so many years to be free. What kind of free are we? Everyone is afraid to say something, looks over their shoulder, is afraid to be photographed with the wrong person, to sing in the wrong place, to react the wrong way. Are we in a concentration camp? …Don’t you understand that we are now living in some kind of Soviet system of theirs?” Polyakova said.
