Military commissars tried to forcibly mobilise vicar of UOC monastery near Kharkiv
28.01.2025 - 13:09An investigation has been launched against the former commander of the 46th Separate Airborne Brigade, Vitaliy Zolotaryov, due to the alleged loss of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region, although this has not been officially confirmed.
This was reported by the military Telegram channel Deep State and journalist Yulia Kiryienko-Merinova.
According to Kiryienko-Merinova, Colonel Zolotaryov has “already received warnings and advice to find a lawyer.”
“First, he was removed from command of the brigade because he was blamed for the loss of Kurakhove. Now they want to publicly punish him for this alleged loss,” the journalist wrote on Facebook.
Kiryienko-Merinova raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the loss, noting, “The brigade was stationed in the city even when there was only one road left, holding the city even when there was almost no infantry. But how can you hold a city with a single, nearly wiped-out battalion? The front around Kurakhove collapsed like a house of cards in just a few days. There was almost no reinforcements. But is the commander of the 46th to blame for the loss of the city?”
According to Deep State, a criminal case has been opened against the colonel. The channel believes that the responsibility for the loss of Kurakhove lies not with the brigade but with the military command at the operational-tactical level.
It is worth noting that earlier, senior officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were detained in connection with the breach of defense in the Kharkiv region.
