April 3, 2024A resident of Khmelnytskyi city claimed that her son, Andriy Panasyuk, was tortured to death at the territorial recruitment center.
She shared this information on Facebook.
According to Natalia Antonyuk, military conscripts apprehended her son at a store on March 27. Andriy was taken to the territorial recruitment center where he was subjected to abuse and threats.
“Andriy’s blood pressure rose, he was not allowed to leave the premises, and when he asked for help, he was told that assistance would be provided under Avdiivka. Doctors at the Khmelnytskyi city hospital fought tirelessly for his life for two days, urgently performing neurosurgery overnight from March 27 to 28. However, the brain damage proved incompatible with life. Yesterday, we buried Andriy,” the woman wrote.
Antonyuk added that she filed an official complaint with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Later, the Khmelnytskyi Oblast territorial recruitment center confirmed the death, stating that it occurred “during the medical examination of conscripts in a medical institution.”
As noted by the recruitment center, Andriy had no grounds for service deferral and was wanted for draft evasion.
“However, during the military medical examination, the citizen was found to have an illness. Considering this, he was sent for further examination at a medical institution. The deterioration of the conscript’s health and the fatal outcome occurred already in the medical institution during the further examination,” the recruitment center’s Facebook post said.
The recruitment center denies ignoring the citizen’s complaints about his health condition and denies using physical force or threats against him.
