A Transcarpathian blogger attempted to swim across the river to escape from Ukraine but failed

Border guards apprehended a Transcarpathian blogger who tried to illegally enter Hungary by swimming across the Tisza River. The video of his attempt, which he recorded himself, as well as the interrogation upon detention, was published by the State Border Guard Service.

He filmed his actions, which will now serve as evidence in an administrative case. “I woke up in the morning, got on my bike, prayed and went towards the Hungarian border,” the man says. However, he managed to swim only a meter before the water proved too cold, deep and with a strong current. Later, he was caught by border guards.

In the video, the young man appears calm with his face blurred. There was a previous incident where the man swam across the same Tisza River but at a different location, successfully reaching Romania. It’s not entirely clear why another man couldn’t do the same thing just a week later. Government speakers have also launched an information campaign falsely claiming that it’s more dangerous abroad than in Ukraine.
