The hryvnia has fallen again: the National Bank of Ukraine talks about risks for the foreign exchange market
July 18, 2024American Abrams tanks have proven unready for combat conditions in Ukraine, primarily due to various methods employed by Russia to destroy these “high-tech” armored vehicles.
This information writes Business Insider.
In an interview with the publication, a Ukrainian tank operator with the call sign “Zakon” acknowledged that Russian drones remain a “huge threat” to the Abrams tanks. Even the electronic warfare (EW) systems installed on the tanks do not protect them from drone strikes.
However, according to the Ukrainian tank operator, drones are not the only danger faced by American armored vehicles. Abrams tanks are “easy targets” for weapons commonly used in combat, including anti-tank missiles and rocket launchers.
“Zakon” noted that Abrams tanks are capable of “withstanding hits.” Nonetheless, he emphasized that the tanks urgently need enhanced protection, particularly dynamic systems like ARAT-1 or the Soviet equivalent “Kontakt-1.”
Another problem is the number of vehicles. The US has supplied the Ukrainian Armed Forces with only 31 Abrams tanks, of which at least ten have already been destroyed. Therefore, they cannot be used as breakthrough tanks but instead play a supportive role to bolster defensive positions, as pointed out by Business Insider.
