‘Personal Reason’: Politico publication explains why Robert Fico does not like Ukraine
October 22, 2023Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, stated that providing assistance to Ukraine is not in the best interests of his people.
A video with his explanation was published on the neCT24 channel.
According to the politician, who recently met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine’s interests will never take precedence over Hungary’s, and he finds it unacceptable for this to “affect anyone.”
“We do not accept the argument of a Ukrainian that sounds like they are now sacrificing themselves for us. That’s not true. Ukrainians are not sacrificing themselves for Hungary. The assertion that Ukrainians are defending European freedom, Europe, or Hungary from Russia is not in line with reality. Ukraine is not defending us. We can defend ourselves along with NATO. Our security is not ensured by Ukraine,” Orban emphatically stated.
Finally, the head of the Hungarian government added that they only provide assistance because “when people are in trouble, we must help them if it does not contradict Hungary’s interests.”
“This is why we help, not because it is in our interest. And this is clear! Helping Ukraine is not in the interests of the Hungarian people, but it is simply civilized behavior, providing assistance when it does not contradict Hungary’s interests,” he reiterated.
