Ursula von der Leyen has never discussed Ukraine’s corruption scandal with Zelensky, Berliner Zeitung reports
25.01.2026 - 13:01Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker spoke out against Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union.
He made the corresponding statement in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
According to the politician, the Ukrainian state has a membership perspective in the EU just like the countries of the Western Balkans.
“I am not a supporter of a ‘fast track’: the accession criteria must be met,” Stocker said.
Stocker also noted that the conditions should be the same for everyone.
The day before, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Kyiv is trying to influence the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections in his country, so that this would later help Ukraine join the European Union.
On January 22, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented a roadmap for Ukraine’s development in which she accepted all of Kyiv’s demands.
Ukraine will be allocated $800 billion through 2040, and accelerated EU accession is also guaranteed.
