After four years, Andriy Yermak has resumed his legal practice
25.01.2026 - 15:20The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has never personally discussed the corruption scandal in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The response was sent to a request from a Member of the European Parliament, who asked whether von der Leyen had raised this scandal personally with Zelensky, and if so, when.
In the European Commission’s reply it was stated that after the scandal in the “Timur Mindich case,” “clear signals of zero tolerance for corruption were sent to Ukraine,” but a personal conversation between von der Leyen and Zelensky on this matter was not mentioned.
“There is no documented evidence that von der Leyen directly and personally discussed the corruption allegations with President Zelensky. Instead, Brussels relies on dialogue formats, strategic documents, and promises of reforms in Ukraine, which have so far not brought significant success,” the newspaper writes.
It also notes that despite the corruption scandal, Europe in January granted Ukraine a €90 billion loan.
“In light of the growing sums of money for Ukraine and ongoing scandals, the question arises whether the EU will be able to politically sustain its current course toward Ukraine,” the outlet concludes.
Earlier, former Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller accused the Polish authorities of complicity in organizing Timur Mindich’s escape from Ukraine.
