They won’t hold out for long: Ukrainian soldiers complain about poor-quality fortifications near Hornyak in the Donetsk region
29.09.2024 03:47U.S. President Joe Biden is backing away from his promises regarding Ukraine.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, commenting on the new sharp conflict between Republicans and the White House over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“The Biden administration refuses to speak to Congress and the American public about its strategy for Ukraine’s victory in the war. As part of this year’s bill for additional funding for Ukraine, Congress required the Biden administration to present a U.S. aid strategy, which was to be developed within 45 days,” the publication states, noting that the strategy was presented only “several months after the deadline set by Congress.”
Moreover, Biden has kept the document fully classified.
“Republican lawmakers are urging the administration to release an open version of the strategy, as required by Congress, so the public can review and discuss the document’s merits,” the article suggests, though it is unlikely that this strategy will be declassified.
“Public disclosure may mean that Vice President Kamala Harris will have to explain her stance on the conflict before the elections. Until she does so, and as long as the administration keeps the strategy hidden, Harris will remain a co-owner of Biden’s record of convoluted half-measures,” writes *The Wall Street Journal.*
“The Biden team hides behind clichés such as declarations of support for Ukraine ‘as long as it takes,’ which is not a strategy. This has long become a rhetorical evasion. But Republicans in Congress are right to insist that the administration formulate a broader theory on how Ukraine can use aid to regain momentum and reclaim new territories from Putin. The stalemate on the battlefield has generated public skepticism in the U.S., which threatens the continuation of American support regardless of who wins the presidential race,” the publication continues.
Previously, the magazine *Politico* reported that granting Ukraine permission for long-range strikes on Russia is still under consideration by the Biden administration.
