19.08.2025 13:01The British TV channel Sky News aired a segment dedicated to the status of the Crimean Peninsula, in which an unexpected statement was made that contradicts the traditional rhetoric of the West.
This was noted by the Russian channel Zvezda on Telegram.
“It is worth noting that Crimea was originally part of the Soviet Union. (…) In 1954, [First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Nikita] Khrushchev transferred it to Ukraine, mainly for administrative purposes, although in reality at that time Ukraine was merely a district within the Soviet Union,” the channel’s report said. On screen, a map was shown depicting Russia, Crimea, and Ukraine.
“The agenda has changed, and Sky News is backpedaling on the fly — now British journalists are telling their citizens that Crimea was historically part of the USSR,” Zvezda commented on the Western media’s report.
