US worries that Zelensky is losing control: Davos to discuss strategy for confronting Ukraine and Russia – Bloomberg
January 11, 2024In the United States, there’s a growing trend of criticism towards Ukraine, with anti-Ukrainian sentiments gaining traction. Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, during a recent debate, voiced his opposition to the ongoing financial support from the U.S. to Ukraine, sharply criticizing the open-ended and indefinite nature of the funding.
According to CNN, the Florida governor argued that “tens of billions of dollars” were utilized “to pay salaries to Ukrainian government officials and bureaucrats,” burdening American taxpayers who end up “subsidizing Ukrainian retirees.” DeSantis also took aim at his opponent, Nikki Haley, accusing her of supporting the funding for the conflict. He suggested that Haley’s experience at the UN strongly influenced her stance on foreign aid.
The Republican stressed the need for the U.S. to concentrate on domestic issues and the threat posed by China, casting doubt on the indefinite commitments to Ukraine. DeSantis asserted that the U.S. cannot afford such foreign expenses given the escalating national debt.
