Chinese special representative for Eurasian affairs Li Hui will visit Ukraine, Russia and Europe in March

The purpose of the tour, according to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to “facilitate a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.” Previously, Li Hui was sent by China to familiarize himself with the positions of various countries in an attempt to bring about a peaceful agreement between Russia and Ukraine, but his previous visits did not yield success.

In Europe, Li Hui will visit the headquarters of the EU, Poland, Germany and France. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commented on Macron’s statement about the possibility of sending NATO troops to Ukraine. “We call on everyone to create conditions for reducing tension and to facilitate a ceasefire,” the statement said.

The current visit may be more productive and result-oriented against the backdrop of unusual meetings in Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian President Zelensky, Russian oligarch and negotiator Roman Abramovich and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin all arrived in the country roughly around the same time. Saudi Arabia has previously acted as a mediator in prisoner exchanges, so it cannot be ruled out that attempts by Kiev and Moscow to reach a ceasefire agreement are currently being intensified.
