A participant in the incident posted video footage of the event on social media.
The recording shows a girl asking people relaxing in a gazebo to turn off Russian-language music, but they refused. The people said they had come from Donetsk and that their relatives were fighting at the front.
In addition, the participants in the conflict claimed that the war started because of the Maidan and placed responsibility for its outbreak on residents of western Ukraine. The verbal altercation, which involved profanity, nearly escalated into a physical fight.
The Lviv region police said they are conducting an inquiry into the incident and that its participants have been identified.
The outlet previously reported a similar case in Kharkiv, where a woman called the police over teenagers listening to a children’s song in Russian.
Against the backdrop of such incidents, deputies from Servant of the People proposed increasing fines for Russian-language music in public catering establishments a hundredfold. The current fine is approximately €3. Under the legislative initiative, a first offense would carry a fine of approximately €332–€2,000, a second offense up to approximately €2,000, and a third and subsequent offenses up to 170,000 hryvnias.
