Eggs saw the highest price increase: inflation accelerated in Ukraine in February

Consumer inflation in Ukraine accelerated to 13.4% year-on-year in February 2025, up from 12% in December and 12.9% in January.

This information reported according to data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

According to the statistics agency, the inflation acceleration was driven by the summer-autumn drought and rising production costs.

Food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 1.2% over the past month and 15.2% year-on-year. The largest annual price hikes were seen in butter (+32.2%), sunflower oil (+31.1%), and vegetables (+29.4%). Over the past month, eggs (+3.5%) and sunflower oil (+3.4%) saw the biggest price increases, while sugar prices dropped by 0.4%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased in price by 1.3%.

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels rose in price by 19.3% year-on-year, while household goods and appliances saw a 2.0% price increase.

Earlier reports indicated that in 2024, inflation in Ukraine reached 12%, more than twice as high as the 5.1% inflation rate in 2023, which marked a significant decline in the purchasing power of the hryvnia.

Due to the rising inflation, the National Bank of Ukraine was forced last week to raise the key interest rate to 15.5%.
